Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt Review

Today, we will make review of small, simple and purposeful keypad deadbolt designed by Kwikset. Model we talk about is Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt and it is technically not a smart lock. We were waiting for this keypad deadbolt with curiosity and we made various tests in the last week. We will share all our experiences with you.

When we first saw the Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt , it immediately reminded us of the Kwikset 910 SmartCode Contemporary Electronic Deadbolt, but the Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt is smaller in size and has no keyhole. Moreover, it does not offer any connection options so it doesn’t have any smart capabilities. Now we want to move on to our detailed review about this keypad deadbolt.

Keypad Of Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt

Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt

Keypad is really small. When we installed Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt on the door, it almost disappeared at the door. It has a very simple keypad design consisting of 6 keys. Buttons are large and made of rubber material. You can easily press the keys without difficulty.

After entering the code, you need to press the button with the lock icon at the bottom to open the door. This button also serves to lock your door with a single press. There is not auto lock so this is a big disappointment for us as auto lock is our favorite feature at these kind of keypad deadbolts or smart locks.

Since there is no key entry, it also prevents attacks such as lock bumping or lock picking automatically. Keyless design scares some users, but obviously you don’t have to worry about if you have a properly working lock like this on your door.

There is no backlit on the keypad. We can count this as the biggest deficiency of this keypad deadbolt. Since the buttons have a large design, it will be a little difficult to enter the wrong code. When your hand gets used to it, you will not need backlit because it has a very ergonomic design.

Weather Conditions

We have to test for a long time for accurate weather condition performance results, but since we did not have that much time, we had to reach people who have been using Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt for a long time on social media. As far as we have learned, this product is not affected by bad weather conditions. It has very heavy-duty design. Ypu can expect to get fıll performance even in bad weather conditions such as cold, hot, rain, snow, direct sunlight.

Programming Codes to Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt

As you can imagine, programming this product is not difficult. The most important step you should pay attention to while programming is to press the correct button in accordance with the lock direction as there are 2 choices. If you pay attention to this step, you will have no problem with programming. We are sharing the Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt programming manual at here.

You can program a total of 4 user codes (4-8 digits). These codes are codes that will work for 24 hours unless you delete them. There is no one time usage code. In some equivalent models, one time code could be programmed. Battery Life of Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt

Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt is powered by 4 x AA Alkaline batteries and these batteries do not come out of the box. We recommend you to buy buy rechargeable batteries such as Energizer Rechargable AA batteries when buying batteries. Alternatively, if you don’t want to buy rechargable batteries, you can use Duracell batteries. These 2 batteries have given us the best battery life in the past.

We expected a very high battery life from this type of keypad deadbolt because there is no backlit, no auto lock or any kind of smart features. Another question we asked people with Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt was battery life. By comparing the information we gathered from users and from our own tests, we found an average battery life of 5-6 months. This period is very good for a smart lock, but it is not enough for a product with limited features as this one. We would expect it to go at least for 1 year.

There are many factors that affect battery life. Factors such as the condition of the door, weather conditions, frequency of use, enabled features dramatically change the battery life. With this in mind, we would like to point out that it is not possible for everyone to achieve the same battery life.

Kwikset 905 Keyless Entry Touchpad Deadbolt has low battery indicator so don’t panic when you hear 10 short beeps because this is a warning that your battery is running out. We recommend you to replace your batteries without waiting too long. You can probably do at least 10-15 more lock/unlock operations but it’s not worth to risk. Even if you forget to replace the batteries, you can remove the rubber cover at the below of buttons on the keypad and connect the 9v battery to back-up port to unlock your door.

Replacing the batteries is very easy. After sliding up the cover of the interior unit, you will see the batteries. A total of 1 minute procedure.
